It’s really frowned upon in the Mormon church to have a gay family member, to associate with gays, anything like that. And I feel like I’d already brought a lot of shame to my parents by not being an active Mormon…
So it just got to the point where it was them or me, and I had this thing inside of me that was just exploding, and I had to tell them. I kind of disregarded the church in that moment and just went with the interpersonal relationship between my family and I.
